The process

Share your idea

Start by filling out the project form. Tell us what you're building — instrument type, scale length, hardware, body style — and upload your sketch or reference drawing. A napkin sketch is fine. A detailed drawing works too. The more you give us, the more accurate the first draft.

Get a quote

We'll review your submission and reply with a flat-rate quote, a list of exactly what you'll receive, and an estimated timeline. No hourly surprises. If your project doesn't fit a standard tier, we'll quote it individually.

Approve and deposit

Once you approve the quote and spec sheet, pay the 50% deposit to lock in your spot. The project timeline starts here. The deposit is non-refundable except when we cancel (in which case it's refunded in full).

Design and draft

We get to work. You'll receive watermarked proof images at each stage so you can see progress and provide feedback before we move forward.

Revise

Three rounds of revisions are included. Cosmetic adjustments are always welcome. If something needs to change at the spec level — like scale length or neck joint — that's a change order and we'll quote it before proceeding.

Final approval and payment

Once you're happy with the final proof, we'll invoice the remaining balance plus any approved change-order charges.

Delivery

Full-resolution, unmarked production files are delivered after payment clears. Your files, your design, ready to cut.

Revisions vs. change orders

The difference matters for pricing. Here's how we draw the line.

Included

Revisions

Cosmetic and minor adjustments that don't change the approved spec sheet.

Changing inlay style (dots to blocks)
Adjusting pickup ring shape or size
Minor body proportion tweaks
Moving a control knob location
Adjusting neck profile shape
Quoted separately

Change orders

Changes to approved spec-sheet parameters that affect the design's fundamental geometry.

Scale length
String count
Neck joint type
Body construction (flat to carved)
Major body outline redesign

Change order and extra revision rates

Change orders and additional revision rounds beyond the included three are always quoted and approved before work proceeds. No surprise charges.

Turnaround times

Project type Typical turnaround
Simple body or neck blueprint ~2 weeks
Full blueprint set (body + neck) ~2–3 weeks
3D modeling Quoted per project
Rush work 1.5× rate

Turnaround estimates assume timely feedback. If we're waiting on your input, the clock pauses. Rush availability depends on current workload.

Payment

How payment works

50% deposit due before work begins (non-refundable)
Remaining balance plus any change-order charges, due before final file delivery
You review watermarked proofs throughout — production files release after full payment
If you need to cancel, the deposit is retained but there's no further obligation
If we cancel, your deposit is refunded in full

Ownership

Custom commissions: You own 100% of your original design after final payment. Build from it, sell guitars made from it, modify it — it's yours. We may show the work in our portfolio unless you request confidentiality in writing.

Pre-made plans: Personal-use license. Build unlimited instruments, sell the guitars. Don't redistribute or resell the digital files.

Frequently asked questions

Blueprints ship as a print-ready vector PDF plus a CAD-ready file in your choice of DXF or DWG. 3D models ship as STEP by default, with IGES, STL, or other formats on request. Inlay artwork includes the working Illustrator (.AI) source file along with your preferred export format.

Yes. PDFs can be printed at 1:1 scale for manual template-making. DXF, DWG, and STEP files import directly into most CNC software including VCarve, Fusion 360, and others. If you're not sure what format you need, just ask.

No. A rough sketch, an annotated photo, or a description of an existing guitar style with your modifications is enough. The clearer your starting point, the faster the first draft — but we're used to working from napkin sketches.

We don't create original designs from scratch. You bring the concept — even a rough one — and we turn it into production-ready files. If you know what you want but aren't sure how to communicate it, reach out and we'll figure it out together.

Currently we focus on electric guitars and basses. Acoustics involve a different set of structural considerations — bracing, top thickness, sound engineering — that fall outside our current scope.

Yes. Multi-scale, fanned fret, and extended-range instruments are quoted individually since they involve additional complexity. Submit your specs through the project form and we'll quote it.

It depends. If you own the files and have the right to modify them, we can work with them. If the files are someone else's intellectual property with restrictions on modification, we'd need to start fresh from your own reference.

Reach out and we'll quote the modifications as a new project or change order, depending on scope. We keep backups of all delivered files, though we don't guarantee indefinite storage — always keep your own copies.

No. We deliver the design files — you or your machinist handle the CAM side. This keeps the deliverable clean and avoids assumptions about your specific machine, tooling, and workflow.

The 50% deposit is non-refundable once work begins. You can cancel at any time — the deposit is retained but there's no further obligation. If we're unable to complete your project, the deposit is refunded in full.
